True Blue Home Inspections
ASHI Certified Home Inspector Serving Niles, Illinois

In the 1830’s the area was first known as “Dutchman’s Point” due to the many German farming families that settled there. The town was incorporated in 1899, but there are a variety of origins for the town’s name. It may have been named after the local abolitionist, Hezekia Niles, or his son and newspaper editor, William Ogden Niles, or the Niles Construction Company who built many of the homes in the area. Or it was named after the many federal soldiers who were transferred from Niles, Michigan, to garrison in Fort Dearborn.

The town experienced significant growth after World War II with many veterans returning to new housing built on prior farmland and tree nurseries. This housing stock included many bungalows and four-square homes.

There are many large companies that make their headquarters in Niles: Woodward Inc., Shure, Bradford Exchange, Coco-Cola, Specialty Print, Fort Dearborn Co., GlobalTranz, and Golf Mill Motor Sales.

The community is served by several high schools: Maine Township East and West, and Niles North and West. Oakton Community College also rests in Niles.
